I've voted #howlite, for #Iona and #Boron, but whewellite is named after Cambridge boffin and wordsmith William Whewell, who coined a large number of terms now in widespread use, including "scientist" which he created while reviewing the work of Scottish mathematician and polymath Mary Somerville, superseding the traditional "man of science". #WilliamWhewell #MarySomerville #Scientist

I'm going for howlite: it's not found in Scotland, BUT some of the finest crystals come from Iona, on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia: one of the places where Gàidhlig is still widely spoken. At last! The first published isotopic dates from the Lewisian complex on Iona - at the southern end of the Lewsian outcrop. The 6 rocks they dated record history from about 2.7 billion years to 1.7 billion, but this is unlikely to be the whole story....

9 June: traditional death date of Baithéne, first cousin & immediate successor of St. Columba, abbot of #Iona who died 9 June 597. Baithéne died 598x600. His name survives in Taughboyne Co. Donegal where there was a church dedicated to him.
