I can see the Alt-Text in the jpg- file. If i understand this correctly, the Alt-Text is part of #IPTC Core standard.

Btw: it doesn't work in #pixelfed either.

About 100 loc into adapting exvi2 into one of my howngrown tools and I remember why I avoided that in the past. The #exiv2 API makes me want to sanitize by brain each time I look at its documentation or implementation.
Handling image metadata sucks, be it #EXIF, #IPTC, #XMP or anything else. However, a library shouldn't *increase* the pain.
Anyone aware of a halfway useable alternative that can be adopted/integrated into other languages? So ideally written in C or C++. Rust *might* work too.
DINAX hat ein kostenloses Tool veröffentlicht, um auf einfach Weise, Copyright relevante IPTC Daten zu schreiben.
I'm currently trying to rid myself of #Lightroom and #AdobePortfolio and move to #darktable and #hugo instead.
One issue I've stumbled on is that I've historically used the image Title
instead of the image Description
, but both LR and DT have tended to write the image Title
to the #IPTC or #XMP metadata categories, not to #EXIF. As of right now #hugo only seems to read #EXIF tags, so my photo titles aren't showing up when a #hugo theme tries to display captions.
Going through 100s of photos and copying the Title
to the Description
would be a royal pain. But luckily #exiftool comes to the rescue. For an entire directory of JPEG files I can simply run:
exiftool -tagsFromFile @ -'ImageDescription<Title' *.jpg
This copies the content of the Title
tag into the #EXIF ImageDescription
tag. And now the captions show up :)
@DerEntspannende Ich fänd´ das sehr praktisch. Selbst mit so einem schlanken (und schnellen!) Tool wie #IrfanView kann man nämlich #IPTC-Daten lesen und schreiben. Das können alle Nutzende, die klicken können.
@andrej @PleaseCaption
#EXIF #fotografie
The #EBU #IPTC #wikidata workshop was a really nice day.
Jennifer Parucci of NYT is currently talking how to extend IPTC MediaTopic with SKOS ( as in @skohub ) and wikidata.
That is hot.
All the slides and recordings will soon be published at this page:

If u interested in metadata:
There is a supernice workshop by the European Broadcasting Union (where the public broadcasters of Europe are collaborating) –
“Wikidata has become one of the largest collections of open data on the web.
Join our workshop (10 Mar), held with IPTC, on how broadcasters and media organizations can use Wikidata to tag, enrich and enhance their content! #opendata with wikidata and IPTC”
