Friday has arrived. What do you plan to play or watch this weekend?

It's more Digital Devil Saga for us on Saturday. On Sunday we have a Q&A livestream for the 5th Anniversary of our Quarantine Control column.

Offline we're quite busy. One of us is watching MS Gundam 00. Another is watching Everything Everywhere All At Once. We're playing The World Ends With You, Atelier Rorona, Marvel Rivals, and hopefully some Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The coder of our former Amiga game dev team has fed an old Polaroid picture of us to ChatGPT's image generator.

The first result shows the now almost obligatory Studio Ghibli style, and the other variant is how we might look when we're 75. 😁

I'm the one with the dark sweater by the way. 🙂

I might regret doing this on LinkedIn of all places, but seeing the conversation around "No Mercy" severely lacking nuance and people openly demanding to doxx the developers (!), I've decided to write a response to this thread:

As both a feminist who dedicated most of their career to help make the game space more diverse, inclusive, and safe for everyone AND an adult gaming expert with 10+ years of experience, I’m honestly dumbfounded by the discourse surrounding this game.

While it is absolutely valid - no, necessary - to discuss aspects such as youth protection, whether games with this particular kind of content should be available on Steam (or any mainstream distribution platform), and why there are so many adult games focusing on sexualized violence against women, the tone of this particular conversation (“filth”, “sick”), the open calls for censorship and even doxxing honestly frighten me.

www.linkedin.com#womeningames #nomoremisogyny #gamingforall #safespacesingaming #steam… | Women in Games | 34 Kommentare🚫 NO MERCY REMOVED FROM STEAM — AND RIGHTLY SO Women in Games welcomes the removal of No Mercy from Steam, a so-called ‘game’ that glorified rape, incest, blackmail and violence against women. Let us be clear: this was not edgy. It was not “just a game.” It was the blatant gamification of misogyny. A title that encouraged players to “never take no for an answer” and “become every woman’s worst nightmare” should never have made it onto one of the world’s largest gaming platforms. The fact that it did is a damning indictment of the systemic failures that continue to plague our industry — failures that allow hate to be coded, sold, and streamed. To all those who spoke out — thank you. To those still silent — we’re listening. This is why Women in Games exists: to dismantle the systems that allow this kind of dehumanising content to slip through. To advocate for a games industry where women and marginalised genders are safe, respected, and represented — not reduced to punchlines or prey. We demand better. We will keep fighting for it. And we thank Abby A. at SCREENSHOT Media for breaking the news of the game in the first instance… #WomenInGames #NoMoreMisogyny #GamingForAll #SafeSpacesInGaming #Steam #NoMercy #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #RepresentationMatters Photo by Andersen Jensen on Unsplash | 34 Kommentare auf LinkedIn
