It's not LISTENING to what I say as much as trying to PREDICT what I want to say. It makes too many assumptions about what it "hears." The fact that it pulls up names from my address book when they sound a lot like words I use – Wurth versus worth – is disturbing. (1/3)

I know I can’t do anything about penguining Vellum (Mac only) but the Dragon dictation software is bloody good and both of us use it. I have an EU software solution for all my other writing needs in Papyrus 12, and got it working on <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/linuxmint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#linuxmint</a> using a flatpack <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/playonlinux4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#playonlinux4</a>. I can keep a Winblows system running for dictation if I have to, but with the USA behaving strangely, I want to have as little reliance on Microsft as possible. They could feasibly just shut all the systems down, couldn’t they? Not panic, just trying to be prepared. RS, Author, Novelist, ProsaistDo you know what is infuriating about AI assisted dictation and grammar checking? It's that it bases its deductions on what most other people have done, in other words what is most frequently written, a significant number of which seem to have been written by the functionally illiterate. It's not what you've written in the past but what the zeitgeist frequently writes. As a result, it inserts strange pronouns, words that don't fit, and corrects your proper word choice to something totally inappropriate because that's what everybody else is writing. Using AI dumbs down your writing.Totally useless for an author!(Case in point: Dictation was used to write this post. I find that I write over 3 times faster when I dictate, but when talking about personal events, there is just a block somewhere, which prevents me from stating most of details that would bring the story to life..
