Maria Langer | 📝 🎬 ⚒️🛥️<p>I think I realized why <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a>'s <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/dictation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dictation</span></a> feature sucks now. It's not LISTENING to what I say as much as trying to PREDICT what I want to say. It makes too many assumptions about what it "hears." The fact that it pulls up names from my address book when they sound a lot like words I use – Wurth versus worth – is disturbing. (1/3)</p>
Ben Westland<p>I've been staring at the BYOK website for a while now. I love the idea of having nothing more than a tiny, portable LCD and my favourite keyboard for <a href="https://journals.bytetower.social/tags/writing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writing</span></a>. There is just one practical problem for me: I hardly type my first drafts anymore. <a href="https://journals.bytetower.social/tags/dictation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dictation</span></a> has really replaced most of my daily typing.</p><p>I guess in a few years I will have lost my ability to type fast. :D</p>
Cornelius Flynn<p>Any <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> buffs had any joy getting Nuance Dragon Professional (PC) working?<br>I know I can’t do anything about penguining Vellum (Mac only) but the Dragon dictation software is bloody good and both of us use it. <br>I have an EU software solution for all my other writing needs in Papyrus 12, and got it working on <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/linuxmint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linuxmint</span></a> using a flatpack <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/playonlinux4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>playonlinux4</span></a>. <br>I can keep a Winblows system running for dictation if I have to, but with the USA behaving strangely, I want to have as little reliance on Microsft as possible. They could feasibly just shut all the systems down, couldn’t they?<br>Not panic, just trying to be prepared. Arthritic fingers work more slowly than dictation. <br><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/microsoft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microsoft</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Nuance" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nuance</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/dictation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dictation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/WritersCoffeeClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersCoffeeClub</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/writers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writers</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/software" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>software</span></a></p>

Maria Langer | 📝 🎬 ⚒️🛥️<p>Here’s some “Apple Intelligence“ I’d like to see: if, every morning, I send a friend a text message with my Wordle score and I ALWAYS use the send later feature to send it at 7 AM, every morning when I try to send that delayed text, the default timing should be 7 AM instead of 9 AM. That would be <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/intelligence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>intelligence</span></a>. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> </p><p>Also, capitalizing random conjunctions in dictated text messages is not “intelligence.“ <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/dictation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dictation</span></a></p>
RS, Author, Novelist, Prosaist<p>Do you know what is infuriating about AI assisted dictation and grammar checking? It's that it bases its deductions on what most other people have done, in other words what is most frequently written, a significant number of which seem to have been written by the functionally illiterate. It's not what <em>you've</em> written in the past but what the zeitgeist frequently writes. As a result, it inserts strange pronouns, words that don't fit, and corrects your proper word choice to something totally inappropriate because that's what everybody else is writing. Using AI dumbs down your writing.</p><p>Totally useless for an author!</p><p>(Case in point: Dictation was used to write this post. It insisted on changing "dumbs down" to "thumbs down" repeatedly, despite it showing the word <em>dumbs</em> for a fraction of a second!)</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/BoostingIsSharing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BoostingIsSharing</span></a></p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Dictation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Dictation</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/WritingCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritingCommunity</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/WritersOfMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WritersOfMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Writer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Writer</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Author" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Author</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/AutoCorrect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AutoCorrect</span></a></p>
